Hello everyone! We have been absolute disasters at keeping this up to date as we travel so we said we’d do a quick catch up post to let you all know where we are at.

So, we’re currently in Australia travelling up the East coast in a camper van. We left Christchurch on the 13th of January and landed in Melbourne where we spent a week rebooting and getting ready for the next adventure.

We picked up our van a week later and took the road again. We explored some of the south coast, including the Mornington Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road, before we turned inland to the Grampians to do some of our favourite activity-hiking.

We then made our way North towards Sydney. We wanted to explore more of the south east coast, but the bush fires there were in full swing and we didn’t feel safe driving down there. As a result, we got to Sydney a few weeks early, but better safe than sorry. We met up with friends and family living around Sydney, went to the Sydney Rugby 7’s and did some sight-seeing before continuing our trip up the East Coast.

To be honest since then the trip has been a blur of beaches, sun, rain and wildlife. Some of the highlights have been:

Seeing where ‘Home and Away’ is filmed and meeting ‘Irene’
Getting stranded in the Blue Mountains for 5 days in the worst storm Sydney has seen in 80 years
Sunrise at the Byron Bay lighthouse
Visiting the Koala Hospital in Port MacQuarie
Seeing dog surfing at Noosa Heads
Spending Roisin’s birthday in the Glasshouse Mountains
Camping at a Kangaroo Sanctuary for 2 nights

So far, we are loving Australia, however, miss the breath-taking views when driving around New Zealand. The drives here can be very long with nothing but bush to look out at. Our goal is to make it to Cairns for the beginning of April, exactly one year since we left work, and who knows what will happen after that!

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the delay in update,

Roisin & Bernard
